UNSW Receives India’s LOI Approval to Establish Campus

In a milestone development for India–Australia education cooperation, the Government of India has issued a Letter of Interest (LOI) to the University of New South Wales (UNSW) for establishing its campus in India.

The LOI was officially handed over by Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Education, Government of India, in the presence of Jason Clare, Australia’s Minister for Education, during the 3rd Australia–India Education and Skills Council Meeting held in New Delhi.

Ranked among the world’s top 20 universities in the QS World University Rankings, UNSW will become one of the first premier Australian institutions to set up a full-fledged campus in India — a significant step towards expanding high-quality international education within the country.

Strengthening Strategic Collaboration in Education & Research
Minister Pradhan emphasized that enhancing critical thinking skills and building an AI-ready generation are national priorities. He highlighted the joint commitment to fostering long-term academic partnerships, including:

  • Collaboration between universities and research institutions
  • Joint funding initiatives in areas of strategic importance
  • Exchange programmes and talent mobility from pre-school to PhD levels

Both ministers reiterated that this partnership will add new dynamism to bilateral cooperation in education, innovation, and research.

The initiative reflects the shared vision of India and Australia to develop globally competitive talent, promote knowledge exchange, and create new avenues for skill development and innovation-driven growth.
