The Australian High Commission in New Delhi brought the spirit of contemporary Australian music to the heart of India with the inaugural “Gig on the Green”, held in New Delhi on 13 February 2026. The evening featured celebrated Australian artists of Indian heritage, Reuben De Melo and Milan Ring, offering audiences an engaging glimpse into the dynamism and diversity of Australia’s vibrant music scene.
Headlining the event was indie-folk singer-songwriter Reuben De Melo, who rose to international attention after winning the 13th season of The Voice Australia in 2024. Born in Goa and raised in Australia, De Melo’s soulful voice and heartfelt storytelling—often inspired by his Goan roots—captivated the audience under the Delhi evening sky. His journey from independent releases to national fame has made him one of the most promising emerging voices in Australia’s contemporary music landscape.
Sharing the stage was Sydney-based composer, performer and songwriter Milan Ring, widely recognized for her genre-blending sound that fuses R&B, soul and electronic influences. Hailed by critics as part of Australia’s “R&B renaissance,” Ring has earned a reputation for her innovative musical style and compelling live performances.
The Delhi performance formed part of the artists’ wider India tour, during which they also participated in India International Music Week 2026, a three-day global music conference and showcase festival held in Mumbai. The festival brings together international musicians, producers, industry leaders and emerging talent, reinforcing India’s growing role as a hub for global music collaboration.
In another highlight of their visit, the Australian artists joined the Gully Choir of the Manzil Mystics Foundation for a special jam session in New Delhi. The collaboration reflected the shared cultural heritage and creative synergy between India and Australia, demonstrating how music can serve as a powerful bridge between communities.
Through initiatives such as “Gig on the Green,” the Australian High Commission continues to strengthen cultural diplomacy and people-to-people connections between the two countries. By celebrating artists who embody both Indian heritage and Australian creativity, the event highlighted the deepening cultural ties that complement the growing strategic and economic partnership between India and Australia.
